Religious Trauma Recovery
Support Group
A short term support group to assist you on your journey of recovery from spiritual or religious harm and the aftermath of leaving behind a faith community.
If you've been hurt by a religious or spiritual environment -- whether through overt harm or subtle, chronic messages that left you feeling afraid, ashamed, or not enough -- you're not alone.
"Helplessness and isolation are the core experiences of psychological trauma.
Empowerment and reconnection are the core experiences of recovery."
- Judith L. Herman, MD
Religious trauma can leave deep imprints:
- a harsh inner critic
- chronic shame or guilt
- fear of punishment or social rejection
- self-doubt and loss of self-trust
- grief and isolation
- a lingering sense that something is "wrong" with you
This 10-week support group aims to provide a container for navigating the aftermath of harmful religious systems and experiences, make room for feelings, connect with others who understand, and bring awareness to what so often gets covered up.
What to Expect

This group will be a mix of support, education, and processing. That means:
-
A safe space to speak your story (as much or as little as feels right) and hear from others
-
Gentle exploration of what you’re carrying and how you've been impacted
-
Opportunities to reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been silenced or diminished
-
Gentle guidance around discussion topics that are common in religious trauma recovery
-
Connection with others who’ve had similar experiences
-
An atmosphere of respect, consent, and curiosity—no pressure to believe, explain, or justify
This is not a group that will push you toward a specific belief system or path. Instead, we’ll make space for whatever is true for you—doubt, hope, anger, grief, and everything in between.
